OUR STORY

A Ranch with a Story to Tell
Long before Valley Center became the community it is today, its rolling hills and agricultural landscape offered a quieter side of Southern California—a place defined by open country, working land and a sense of escape.

Today, Valley Stream Ranch—El Rancho Magnífico—carries that character forward across approximately 197 acres of groves, mature trees, rolling terrain and open countryside.

Rooted in Valley Center

The story begins with the land itself. Set among the rolling hills of North San Diego County, the ranch reflects Valley Center’s longstanding agricultural character—a landscape shaped by open country, groves, ranching and generations of rural life.

Today, those qualities remain immediately visible across the property: mature trees, agricultural land, winding roads and expansive countryside that feels remarkably removed from the Southern California cities beyond.

A Hollywood Chapter

During Hollywood’s Golden Age, legendary dancer and actor Fred Astaire and his family maintained a ranch of approximately 125 acres in Valley Center.

Away from the studios and stages that made him famous, Astaire pursued another passion: horses. His involvement in Thoroughbred racing grew during this period, and among his most successful horses was Triplicate, winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup in 1946.

Astaire’s years in Valley Center form a distinctive chapter in the area’s history—a meeting of rural California ranch life and one of Hollywood’s most celebrated figures.

An Agricultural Legacy

Through changing generations, agriculture has remained part of the character of the land.

Today, citrus and olive trees continue to grow across portions of Valley Stream Ranch, surrounded by mature trees, rolling terrain and natural open space. This working landscape is more than scenery; it is part of the ranch’s identity and its connection to Valley Center’s agricultural heritage.

Preserving that character remains an important part of how we care for the property today.

A New Chapter

Today, Valley Stream Ranch—El Rancho Magnífico—encompasses approximately 197 acres, and its story continues to evolve.

Our goal is not to transform the ranch into something it was never meant to be, but to thoughtfully share it while preserving its privacy, agricultural character, history and natural landscape.

Select portions of the property are now available for overnight stays, film, photography and production, creating new ways to experience the ranch while helping ensure that this increasingly rare piece of Southern California open land remains active, cared for and preserved for generations to come.
